International Entertainer in the Philippines

Lately, there are a lot of well- known international entertainers who are performing in the Philippines like Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5 and etc. Then a question came up in my mind; why do these international entertainers like to perform in the Philippines thinking that most of our countrymen are not that too wealthy to afford those expensive concert tickets. But contrast to that, most of international entertainer’s concerts earned a lot of profit on their performances in the Philippines. This is because most of our countrymen are fanatics of international performers and they are willing to spend a lot of money just to watch their favourite international performers live. A friend of mine is one of those million die-hard fanatics of Nicki Minaj. And last June 2012, he bought VIP seat for 2 worth P13, 000. 00 on Nicki Minaj concert in SM Arena. I remembered the only question I asked him that time, “why did you buy those expensive concert tickets?” and he answered “I’m willing to spend my money just to watch her live. I saved my allowance just to buy these tickets”. He spends a lot of money even though he does not have a permanent source of money, and just relying on his weekly allowance.
Maybe this is the reason why those international performers like to perform in our country. Filipinos are very obsessed or being too much fanatic on their favourite performers. There’s nothing wrong with spending money for leisure, but we should know first our priorities in spending. Thank you for reading my blog!

Original Pilipino Music

There are too many music and sounds that are in trend in the Philippines like Gangnam style and Gentleman of Psy, Just give me a reason by Pink and many more. But do you still know our own music? Most of us are in favour of international songs which are composed and sung by international singers. Sometimes, I asked myself, “why most of us prefer those songs over our own music?” “Why do we patronage other nation’s songs and music even though we do not understand what it means?”

For me, Original Pilipino Music, also known as OPM, is much better than any international songs. Beside from the reason that we can easily understand OPM, it is better than any international songs because our own countrymen composed and sung this music.  Patronage of our own music shows patriotism, and support for our own talented bands, singers, and composers. Some of the well known bands, individuals, and composers that started and popularized OPM are Ryan Cayabyab, Nonoy Suñiga, Rey Valera, Rico J. Puno, Eraserheads and etc. An example of a popular OPM is “Tuwing Umuulan at Kapiling Ka”, a winner in 18th Awit Awards, Best Musical Arrangement on May 25, at the AFP theatre Quezon City Philippines. This shows how excellent OPM is.

We cannot say that OPM is “baduy” because since 1950’s, OPM are consistent from its competency to the music internationally worldwide. But since Filipino started to adopt international songs and music, the OPM started to lose its popularity to the Filipinos. Well, it’s not too late to revive our very own music; there are still a lot of bands, individuals, and composers who are still in OPM. Lets patronage our own music! Long live OPM!

Responsible pet ownership

Are you a dog or cat owner? Or are you thinking of getting a pet? Pets are one of the men’s stress relievers. They are giving back love and joy whenever we are taking good care of them. Now, I will give you some tips on how to become a responsible pet owner.
Responsible pet ownership involves choosing the right pet for your lifestyle, complying with the law, caring for your pet’s health, and ensuring your pet doesn’t cause problems in the community. Being a responsible owner ensures you and your pet can enjoy a long and happy relationship. For me, registering my pet in associations like Philippine Canine Club Inc. is not that necessary; but if you’re capable of registering your pet to associations or organizations why not? Responsible pet ownership is not just by giving shelter, food, medicines (vitamins, vaccines, and etc.) and other needs of your pet. Owning a pet is a lifetime commitment. If you can't make the commitment, don't get a pet. You should choose a pet that fits your lifestyle, don’t get a high energetic dog, if you don't have the time to exercise him. If you can't afford grooming or can't do the grooming yourself, pick a low maintenance dog. Make sure your home is "pet" safe. Pesticides, medications, household cleaners and some houseplants (dieffenbachia, philodendron, hyacinth, and mistletoe) can be deadly to your pet. Play and train your pet, make them sociable to other people and animals. Provide your pet a proper diet, don’t give them foods that can irritate or harm them. And of course, take special care of your pet especially during their senior years. And lastly, be kind to your pet and show him your love. Always bear in mind that YOU ARE HIS WORLD.

Btw, I am also a pet owner. It’s a 2-year old male Shih Tzu. I am a responsible owner and I love my pet! J

Lebron James on Miami

Recently, the National Basketball Association championship phenomenon strucks again to all the avid basketball fans around world, especially the Filipino ones. Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs fought for the 67th NBA championship title. As the championship games goes by, Lebron James’ haters showed their hatred via posting and commenting against him on Social media like Twitter and Facebook. One of the remarkable arguments by these haters is that the said player had promised to his previous team, Cleveland Cavaliers, that he will not stop fighting for them until he brought home the championship trophy in Cleveland. But Last July 01 2010, James decided to leave Cleveland Cavaliers and became a free agent; and on July 08 of the same year, he signed his contract on Miami Heat and became part of its well- known big three together with Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade. Subsequent to those events, James received a lot of criticism from sport analysts, executives, fans and current and former players for leaving the Cavaliers. It is argued that he pursued to break his promise to his previous team merely to get a bigger chance to get the championship title.
But behind all James’ decisions, we should not hate him on what he did. Because he is just a man who did it for his own reason and no one can judge him on what he did.

P.S. I’m neither a Lebron James’ hater nor a fan. I’m just a basketball fanatic who wants to express my own opinion. :)

Alternative Metal Music Genre

Nowadays, there are lots of music genres that were introduced in the Philippines. Now, we will discuss about the alternative metal music genre; to give appreciation to this kind of music genre that usually being ignored or disregarded by many of us. This will give credits to those who composed and sung this kind of music genre. Some of the well-known bands that introduced and popularized Alternative Metal music genre are Red Hot Chili Pepper, Metallica, and System of a down. Some of us does not like this kind of music genre because most of its songs are extremely loud, ear-breaking, or sometimes even annoying. It was sung and played with highly amplified distortions, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. Looking into deeper meaning of music, alternative metal music genre expresses a lot of meaningful messages embedded in the lyrics. An example is the Fortune faded by Red Hot Chili Pepper. This tells a life story of a man, which shows how  miserable the man's life that he could even question God for being helpless. He does not care what ever happens to him as consequence on his bad deeds. Red hot chilli pepper offered this song and gave sympathy for those people who are in this situation.

This only shows that not all music genres pleasing to our ears are artistic or meaningful. Sometimes, noisy alternative metal music genre is better than your present music genre.
